The Nigeria Football Federation has tendered an apology to the Federal Government and Nigerians for the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for this year’s World Cup finals in Qatar. NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, regretted that the team failed to qualify despite the enormous support of government and Nigerians, who turned out in throngs to fill up the 60,491-capacity Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja for the clash with Ghana’s Black Stars on Tuesday. “There was nothing the team needed that was lacking. The Government provided necessary support; the NFF put all logistics in place with the active support of the sports ministry and Nigerians turned out en masse to support the team. The truth is that we left nothing to chance. It is sad that things turned out the way they did. “Sport is about winning and losing. Nobody wants to lose but sometimes it happens that way. A customs officer, Muawiyya Gambo Turaki, and nine others have been abducted in Kofar Gayan low-cost, Zaria, Kaduna state. Bandits were said to have invaded the area around 9.00pm on Wednesday. Sometime last year, the bandits invaded the neighborhood and abducted the wife of another customs officer and a woman but released them after N15m ransom was paid. The Biafra Nations League, BNL, on Wednesday has given its members directions on what to do during the next court hearing of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on April 8. Kanu’s trial is scheduled to resume on April 8 at the Abuja Federal High Court. However, BNL Leader, Princewill Richards, has directed its members to “mount roadblocks, block border entrances in solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu’s court case coming up on April 8.” In a statement he signed, Richards called on all militias loyal to the group in the Bakassi Peninsula to ensure that any oil worker who has been defiling the group’s order to shut down operations is apprehended on the said day. The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday adopted a motion directing all pay television service providers to revert to pay per view module as against the mandatory monthly subscription. THE Federal Government has directed all offices to close by 1 pm on Tuesday (today), in order to effectively mobilise support for the Super Eagles of Nigeria as the clash with the Black Stars of Ghana. The Nigeria and Ghana clash will be played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, by 6 p. m. Dr Ngozi Onwudiwe, Permanent Secretary (Service Welfare Office), Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), made this known in a circular she issued on Monday, in Abuja. “As you are aware, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be meeting the Black Stars of Ghana in continuation of the 2022 FIFA World-Cup Qualifier, Playoff, (Return Leg). “There is a need to mobilise support for the Nigerian team. “Consequently, I am directed to inform you that all offices will be closed at 1.00 pm on Tuesday, March 29,” she said.
