NFF apologises to Nigerians over Eagles’ World Cup failure

The Nigeria Football Federation has tendered an apology to the Federal Government and Nigerians for the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for this year’s World Cup finals in Qatar. NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, regretted that the team failed to qualify despite the enormous support of government and Nigerians, who turned out in throngs to fill up the 60,491-capacity Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja for the clash with Ghana’s Black Stars on Tuesday. “There was nothing the team needed that was lacking. The Government provided necessary support; the NFF put all logistics in place with the active support of the sports ministry and Nigerians turned out en masse to support the team. The truth is that we left nothing to chance. It is sad that things turned out the way they did. “Sport is about winning and losing. Nobody wants to lose but sometimes it happens that way. A customs officer, Muawiyya Gambo Turaki, and nine others have been abducted in Kofar Gayan low-cost, Zaria, Kaduna state. Bandits were said to have invaded the area around 9.00pm on Wednesday. Sometime last year, the bandits invaded the neighborhood and abducted the wife of another customs officer and a woman but released them after N15m ransom was paid. The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday adopted a motion directing all pay television service providers to revert to pay per view module as against the mandatory monthly subscription. In a sponsored motion by Senator representing Benue South Senatorial district, Abba Moro, he lamented the incessant hike in price of various bouquets by the service providers which he described as exploitative. THE Federal Government has directed all offices to close by 1 pm on Tuesday (today), in order to effectively mobilise support for the Super Eagles of Nigeria as the clash with the Black Stars of Ghana. The Nigeria and Ghana clash will be played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, by 6 p. m.
