It's about Two years to the 2023 Enugu State Governorship Poll, As usual, Politicians are already in trenches plotting how the next Governor will emerge. All things being equal, Below are the Names of Top 8 Likely Successors of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

1. Senator Ike Ekweremadu

Popularly known as "Ikeoha", the 58years-old is a trained Lawyer and Fifth-term Lawmaker representing Enugu West Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate. Ekweremadu was a Three-term Deputy Senate President, serving from 2007 till 2019. Prior to Election as Senator in 2003, He had previously serve as a Local Government Chairman, Chief of Staff to the Government and Secretary to the Enugu State Government.

2. Professor Bartholomew Nnaji

Nnaji, 64 is a Seasoned Technocrat, Academician and Innovator who played a key role in the Power Sector in the Administration of Former Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan. In 1993, Nnaji returned home from his United States base to serve as Minister of Science and Technology. In 2010, he was appointed as Special Adviser to the Presidential Task Force on Power, a position he held until July 2011 when he became the Minister of Power. Nnaji however resigned his appointment in August 2012.

3. Hon. Chijioke Edeoga

The 56years-old is a Journalist, Lawyer and Politician who is currently the Enugu State Commissioner for Environment. Edeoga served as Commissioner for Local Government Matters during the First-term of Governor Ugwuanyi. The Isi-uzo born Politician has previously served as a Local Government Chairman, One-time House of Representatives Member and a Presidential Aide.

4. Hon. Chinyeaka Ohaa

Ohaa, 60 hails from Nkanu-West Local Government Area of Enugu State. He is a prudent and Financial Administrator who rose through the Rank to become the Enugu State Accountant General, serving from 1999 till 2006. He later served as Commissioner for Agriculture under the Administration of Ex-governor Sullivan Chime. In 2016, Ohaa was appointed as Permanent Secretary of the F.C.T by President Muhammadu Buhari, he was redeployed to the Federal Ministry of Power where he is still serving till date.

5. Senator Gilbert Nnaji

The 54years-old Nnaji is a trained Banker and a Three-time Federal Lawmaker. He served as Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Council between 1997 and 2002. In 2003, he was elected to represent Enugu East/Isi-uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the PDP platform, serving until 2011. Again in 2015, Nnaji staged a come back bid and won the Enugu East Senatorial Seat. During the 2019 General Elections, He lost his re-election bid to Ex-governor Chimaroke Nnamani of the People's Democratic Change (PDC).

6. Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi

Ubosi, 50 is the Incumbent Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly. He hails from Umuchigbo Iji-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area. Ubosi, a Third-term Lawmaker representing Enugu East Urban Consistuency emerged as Speaker in June 2015. Prior to his Election as a State Lawmaker in 2011, He was the Financial Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State.

7. Sir Frank Nweke 

The 55years-old Nweke is a Former Director-General of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG). He came into prominence in June 2001 when he was appointed as Chief of Staff to the Enugu State Governor, a position he held until June 2003. In April 2004, the then President Olusegun Obasanjo was appointed Nweke as Minister of Inter-governmental Affairs, Special Duties and Youth Development, serving till June 2005. He subsequently became the Minister of Information and National Orientation, an Office he occupied until May 2007. 

8. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji

Popularly known as Ozoigbondu, Nnaji is a trained Pharmacist and Businessman cum Politician who currently represents Nkanu West/Nkanu East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He doubles as Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation. Nnaji who is a Founding Member of the PDP in Enugu State had previously served as Commissioner for Public Utilities under the Former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani-led Administration.
