5 Diseases You Can Get From Barbing Shop And How To Protect Yourself

The shop where you barb your hair may feel like a safe haven for you. However, research has found that the Barbing Shop can also be a germ factory where you will be exposed to a number of diseases that you may not know.

This is why in this article, according to reports gathered from Men's Health, we shall be looking at 8 diseases you can get from using a barbershop and how to protect yourself.

1. Folliculitis And Barber's Itch

Most barber's hardly sterilise their tools properly. Using these blades and combs on different people can help transfer Staph bacteria that cause folliculitis. It manifests as bumps on your beards or back of your head and can be very itchy.

2. Hepatitis B

This is a blood-borne viral disease. You can get it in a barbershop if there is a cut on someone who is carrying the virus and such a clipper is used on you without proper sterilisation. Your risk of getting Hepatitis B from a barbershop increases if you have any wound or cut on your scalp, as well as any other scalp diseases that may break your skin barrier.

3. Tinea capitis

This is a serious scalp fungal infection. It is commonly called ringworm. It is widely spread in the Barbing Shop by sharing towels, combs, and scissors that are not well sanitised.

4. Tetanus

You probably think that it's only when you step on a rusty nail that you get a Tetanus infection. Well, research has shown that you can also get Tetanus if you get nicked with rusted barber tools.

5. HIV/AIDS

As we all know, this deadly disease is still out there claiming a lot of lives. A barbershop when the same sharp tools are used by many individuals remains a high risk place of getting HIV.

How To Protect Yourself

You can protect yourself against these deadly diseases by taking the following measures;

1. Ensure that any Barbering tools used on you have been properly sterilised to kill all the germs, and bacteria.

2. Get a personal Barbing kit containing all the necessary tools such as a clipper, comb, scissors and so on.

3. Check your skin and scalp before going for a haircut. Like we said earlier, cuts or wounds on your scalp or skin will increase your risk and expose you to these disease causing agents.

4. Go to only neat and well-kept barbershops. Unclean and dirty looking shops are red flags of a germ factory. Stay away from such places to protect yourself.
