2023: Peter Mba Wins Enugu PDP Governorship Election

An Enugu State oil mogul (Dr Peter Mbah), has been declared the winner of the Enugu State governorship primary election of People Democratic Party, PUNCH reports. According to PUNCH, Peter Mbah outshined eight of his opponents with a total of 790 votes. Despite that Senator Ike Ekweremadu had earlier announced his withdrawal from the Enugu State governorship race, he still got one vote. However, the former Chairman, House Committee on Information, House of Representatives (Hon. Chijioke Edeoga), got nine votes. Mr Chukwunta Gilbert got only one vote, while Ohaa Christian Chienyeaka got three votes. Meanwhile, Prof Barth Nnaji did not get any vote. Barely 72 hours before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention, the former governor of Anambra State and PDP presidential aspirant, Peter Obi officially resigned his membership of the party. The renowned politician took to his Twitter handler to share a controversial post about his membership status in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to his post, he said, " I have resigned my membership in the Peoples Democratic Party".  See the screenshot below. 2023: More heavy weights loose PDP primaries

The curtain dropped yesterday on the senatorial primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with more big wigs crashing out of the race to represent their districts in the Red Chamber from next year. It was however, smoot sails for Governors Okezie Ikpazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Darius Ishaku (Taraba) and former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson. They  got tickets to represent their senatorial zones. Those who lost their bids include: Dino Melaye (Kogi West); Danjumah La’ah (Kaduna South) and ID Nyang (Plateau North). Melaye, who lost his bid to retain his seat in the Upper Legislative Chamber to Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2019 election, was beaten to the PDP ticket by Tajudeen Yusuf. Yusuf is House of Representatives member from Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Constituency. La’ah, who was recently named Senate Deputy Minority Whip, lost his bid to retain the ticket. 2023: Confusion, intrigues as PDP postpones primaries again

There is confusion, uncertainty and tension in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as it has again postponed the dates for its primaries for the 2023 general election. The Guardian learnt yesterday that the primaries, which were earlier scheduled to begin today with the election of State Houses of Assembly flag bearers, have been shifted. Accordingly, all other primary elections for other positions have been affected by the postponement. Although no date has been announced for the commencement of the primaries, there were feelers last night that the exercise may hold on Sunday. An official of the party who spoke in confidence disclosed that a meeting had been fixed for 9:00 pm (yesterday) after which a formal announcement on the new dates would be made.
