Top 10 newspaper headlines in Nigeria for today Saturday, 2nd July 2022.
1. Justice Tanko: Mr President, Don’t Insult Nigerians’ Sensibilities
This newspaper is constrained to ask: is there no shame in the Buhari
administration? Why the indiscretion of cuddling, who should be given a wide
berth? Why will the administration take insensitivity to a whole new level,
and without a care in the world about how Nigerians feel about accountability
being brazenly thrown out of the window? How much lower can Nigeria be sunk so
that the men of power can satisfy primordial cravings and narrow objectives?
Isn’t it ironic to hear the President talk about history being kind to someone
discredited by his colleagues?
These are questions and reactions that cannot be divorced from President
Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to roll out the red carpet for the now-retired
Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad. From his woeful performance during
his confirmation hearing at the Senate in July 2019, discerning Nigerians
could see that the then incoming CJN, who tanked a question on Technicality in
legal practice, was not prepared for the lofty position he was being
railroaded into. It, unfortunately, turned out that ineptitude and corruption
are in the same package.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku
Abubakar, has described Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State as the Jagaban of

time after the 2023 presidential election.
In a video shared on his verified Twitter page on Thursday, Obi stated the
former Anambra Governor has a great potential of being Nigeria’s president in
the nearest future.
Melaye stated that Obi cannot win the 2023 presidential election but he is one
of the finest Nigerians who is intellectually mobile, and administratively
sagacious.
He stated that Obi’s agenda to cut the cost of governance as he has listened
to in Obi’s campaigns is not as important as unifying the country’s ethnic
groups.

child to Britain for organ harvesting.
It was mentioned that the couple had allegedly taken one David Ukpo Nwamini to
the UK to harvest his organs. Ekweremadu’s arrest by the London Metropolitan
Police had since generated a series of controversies.
The couple were subsequently arraigned before Uxbridge Magistrate Court which
ordered that they should be remanded in custody till July 7 while
investigations continue into the allegations against them.
Although the Met police said Nwamini was 15, the NIS said it issued an
international passport indicating his age as 21 after due process.

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola
Tinubu, and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State were supposed to meet in
Spain.
According to This Day, the duo were initially slated to meet in Spain but
current realities with respect to Tinubu’s itinerary could not make that
possible.
Sources told the newspaper that the two leaders resorted to meeting in France,
where the APC presidential candidate was holding strategic meetings in
furtherance of his presidential aspiration.
However, at the time of filing this report, Naija News could not confirm
whether the meeting had indeed taken place.
Recall that the Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sewage and
Drainage, Joe Igbokwe in a now-deleted post claimed that Wike had travelled to
France to meet with Tinubu.
The post had raised thoughts that Governor Wike might not be supporting the
presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.

Thursday, said the ruling has to do with the application filed in 2019 which
asked the court to vacate the order revoking the bail of Kanu.
Naija News recalls that Justice Nyako had on Tuesday denied the IPOB leader
bail and adjourned his case till November 14, 2022, pending the determination
of the Appeal Court.
Kanu is standing trial over charges bordering on alleged terrorism and
treasonable felony, filed against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
According to Ejiofor, the ruling delivered on Tuesday was not on the bail
application, saying that the report of the curt judgement was erroneous and
