1. Buhari Re-appoints Saratu Umar As NIPC CEO

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday approved the appointment of Hajiya Saratu A. Umar as Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).
 
Naija News reports that this was made known in a statement by Buhari’s media aide, Garba Shehu.

Saratu Umar’s appointment is for another term of five years.

Umar, who was first appointed to the position in July, 2014, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Ahmadu Bello University and an MBA in Finance and Banking.

2. 2023: Atiku Abubakar Fortifies Media Team, Makes Fresh Appointments

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday, approved the appointment of three additional aides to his media team.

Naija News reports that the appointment was made known in a statement signed by Paul Ibe, Atiku’s Media Adviser.

The names of the three new media aides are Eta Uso, Abdulrasheed Shehu, and Demola Olanrewaju.

This newspaper reports that their appointments take immediate effect.
 
3. 2023: Wike Is Desperate – BoT Member Who Met Him In Turkey

A former Minister of Police Affairs, Adamu Waziri, has disagreed with the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party to plead with Governor Nyesom Wike over the choice of Ifeanyi Okowa as the vice-presidential candidate of the party.

The member of the PDP BoT said Wike is desperate and needs time to be comforted over what happened.

Wike had gone silent since the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar announced the Delta State Governor as his running mate.

Waziri spoke against the party sending delegates to kneel for the Rivers State Governor.

This is coming after the Chairman of the PDP BoT, Walid Jibrin said the party would send a delegation which will include Atiku, Okowa, and others to reconcile with Wike.

4. Ethnic Bigot: NNPP Defends Kwankwaso, Says He Respects Igbos And All Nigerians

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has spoken in defence of its presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwakwanso after allegations that the former Kano State Governor is an ethnic bigot.

The National Chairman of the NNPP, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja said the words of Kwankwaso about Igbos and their political roles in Nigeria were taken out of context.

He stated that Kwankwaso and the entire NNPP have nothing but respect for the entire people of the southeast and all Nigerians, adding that the party’s presidential candidate will never speak less of any ethnic group or religion.

Naija News reports that Kwankwaso had been in the eye of the storm and labelled an ethnic/religious bigot following his statement in Gombe State over the weekend while inaugurating the Gombe State Executive of the party in which he was quoted to have said the Igbos were good business people but poor politicians.

However, Alkali in his defence on Tuesday following the backlash generated by the statement said Kwanwaso’s words were taken out of context.

5. 2023: Why NNPP’s Alliance Talk With Labour Party Failed – Tanko

The Spokesman of the National Consultative Front (NCFront), Yunusa Tanko, has revealed why the alliance talk between the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the Labour Party (LP) failed.

According to Tanko, the talks failed because the former governor of Kano State wanted Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of LP, to be his vice-presidential candidate.

Tanko, in an interview with Daily Sun, however, said LP and NNPP were ready to collaborate in other areas.

6. Why We Can’t Remove Petrol Subsidy Now – FG

The Muhammadu Buhari Government has disclosed the reason it cannot remove the controversial petrol subsidy.

In an interview with Reuters on Monday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said that it is not the right time to remove the costly fuel subsidy.

Mohammed stated that the federal government postponed the planned petrol subsidy removal till further notice due to the economic woes and social disharmony in the country.

He added that many other countries had introduced measures to help citizens cope with high oil energy prices due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Speaking further, the minister stated that the Nigerian government is doing its best to address the menace of pipeline vandalism in the country.

7. 2023: Femi Otedola Pledges Support For Tinubu

Nigerian billionaire, Femi Otedola has declared his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.

Naija News earlier reported that Tinubu travelled to France after he held a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Taking to his Instagram on Tuesday, the billionaire businessman shared photos of himself and APC chieftain in France whilst praying that God grants him his heart’s desire of becoming the president of the country.

8. IPOB Writes Kwankwaso Over Alleged Relationship With Peter Obi

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has addressed a statement to the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso over the group’s alleged relationship with the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The secessionist agitators said they learnt of a statement credited to Kwankwaso which linked Obi with the Biafra group.

IPOB said it was necessary to state categorically that the former Anambra State Governor is not one of its members and has never supported the agitation for self-determination; hence Kwankwaso should desist from such connections.

The Biafra group in the letter signed and released by its spokesman, Emma Powerful said the group headed by its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not interested in the process of Nigerian elections.

IPOB said it observed that Kwankwaso because of his ethnicity, was not ready to play second fiddle to a Southerner, especially a Chrisitan presidential candidate, stressing that the Kano State man should settle his differences with the presidential hopeful instead of linking him to the Biafra group.

9. Machina Alerts INEC, Raises Allegation Of Forged Resignation Letter To Favour Lawan

The winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Yobe North Senatorial District, Bashir Machina, has informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that a plan to forge his signature on a resignation letter so as to pave way for Senate President Ahmad Lawan is ongoing.

The spokesperson for the Yobe North APC Senatorial Candidate Campaign Organisation, Husaini Mohammed Isah made the allegations in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.

In the statement, Isah condemned the alleged plot, adding that some leaders had become slaves to corruption and criminality in the country.

He went ahead to announce that any purported letter claiming that Machina had resigned is forged and does not emanate from him.

10. Bandits: Katsina Govt Shuts Down 69 Healthcare Facilities Over Insecurity

Incessant banditry attacks and other terror activities have led to the shutting down of no fewer than sixty-nine (69) primary healthcare facilities in Katsina State.

Naija News understands that Governor Aminu Masari’s led government directed the closing of the health centres in communities most affected by terrorist attacks in the state.

Conversing with newsmen on Tuesday (today), the Executive Secretary, Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency Dr Shamsudeen Yahaya said the affected facilities were located in Jibia, Safana, Batsari, Faskari, Sabuwa, and other similar communities having security challenges.

The government official narrated that two of such recently renovated facilities were burnt down by terrorists in Batsari Local Government Area, Naija News reports.

Yahaya added that there was a lamentation from the staff of the Agency who work in the hard-to-reach communities every week.
