1. 2023: My WAEC Certificate Is Missing, Lost And Cannot Be Found – Okowa Tells INEC
The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa has reportedly informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that his WAEC certificate is missing.
It was gathered that Okowa informed INEC about the missing certificate as part of his filings for eligibility in the race for the 2023 elections.
He said in an affidavit to that effect that he enrolled and sat for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) West African School Certificate (WASC) examinations in the year 1974.
The original certificate issued can no more be found however, he added in the affidavit.
The affidavit of loss of original certificate was obtained from the High Court of Justice, Delta State, in the Asaba Judicial Division on October 3, 2006, Naija News understands.
2. Tinubu Dumps El-Rufai, Ganduje, Pencils Zulum, Shettima As Running Mate
The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 election, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has reportedly rejected the chance to pick either Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State or Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State as his running mate.
Tinubu, a former Lagos State Governor, has reportedly zeroed his search on Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State or his predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima.
It was gathered that Tinubu would return from France and announce his running mate before the July 15 deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APC presidential candidate, who had limited his search to Borno, Kano, and Kaduna states, with all the prospective running mates being Muslims, dropped Nasir El-Rufai despite the active role in Tinubu’s emergence.
3. 2023: Six PDP Governors Move Against Atiku (Full List)
The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party appears far from over as the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar and the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu seeks to resolve the differences.
The likes of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose have expressed their grievances following the emergence of Ifeanyi Okowa as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.
The aggrieved members noted that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is the rightful person for the slot having gained the support of 14 out of 17 committee members put together to pick PDP’s vice-presidential candidate.
4. Police Rescue Scores Of Kidnapped Children From Ondo Church [Video]
Security operatives on Friday night rescued many children allegedly kidnapped and kept in a church basement in the Valentino Area of Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Naija News gathered that the kids numbering about 50, were locked up in an underground cell in the church after allegedly being kidnapped.
Security operatives have also arrested the pastor of the church and some members of the church.
In a viral video, the children who reportedly could not remember their names were driven to the police station by security operatives in a patrol car.
“There are kidnapped children recovered in the underground cell of a church in Valentino Area of Ondo,” a voice was heard saying in one of the viral videos online.
5. ‘David Ukpo Offered To Donate Kidney To My Daughter’ – Ekweremadu
Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has said Davido Ukpo offered to donate one of his kidneys to his daughter, Sonia.
The Enugu senator made this known through his lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo stating that his daughter has been suffering from kidney failure and managing it for about five years.
Speaking at the Abuja Federal High Court on Friday, Awomolo said Ukpo informed Ekweremadu that he was 21 years old.
According to the Lawyer, Ekweremadu supported the visa application of Ukpo to the UK with a letter to the British High Commission in Nigeria, explaining the purpose of the visit.
6. 2023: Tinubu’s Presidency Will Manage Nigeria’s Diversity Better – Ganduje
The Governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje has assured Nigerians that the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would handle Nigeria’s diversity well.
Speaking in Abuja on Saturday, Ganduje stated that Tinubu’s experience in politics has made him a candidate that will be ready to unify Nigeria.
A statement made available by Malam Muhammad Garba, the Commissioner for Information, quoted his principal as saying that Tinubu’s team while he was the governor of Lagos consisted of formidable individuals of diverse backgrounds which transformed the state into the strongest economy in the sub-region.
7. RCCG’s Adeboye Rains Curses On Terrorists, Kidnappers, Sponsors
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has rained curses on kidnappers, terrorists and their sponsors.
Speaking during his sermon at the ongoing July Holy Communion Service, Adeboye said criminal groups terrorising churches and Nigeria will know no peace.
According to the popular clergyman, he was surprised when he heard the news that some people ordered churches to be shut down for three months adding that they have all overstepped their boundaries.
8. 2023: After Losing APC Presidential Ticket, Amaechi Tells Supporters Who To Vote For
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has appealed to his supporters not to be angry but cast their votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections.
Speaking on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Amaechi told his supporters not to be discouraged by the outcome of the APC presidential primaries but to go all out and ensure the party emerges victorious at the polls.
Naija News reports Amaechi emerged second during the primaries in Abuja, losing out to former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
However, addressing thousands of his supporters who came to welcome him and followed him from the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, to the APC state secretariat in Port Harcourt, Amaechi said no matter their feelings about the outcome of the primaries, APC is the party they must vote for.
9. ‘Why Makinde, Tambuwal Failed To Attend Osun Campaign Council Inauguration’
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has disclosed why he was not at the inauguration of the Osun Governorship Campaign Council.
In an interview with The Punch, the governor’s spokesman, Taiwo Adisa, stated that the governor could not attend because he was out of the country.
He disclosed that Governor Makinde was in Israel to attend an investment forum.
“The governor is out of the country to attend an Agribusiness Investment Forum in Israel,” he said.
Also, Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Sustainable Development Goals, Kabiru Aliyu, revealed that the governor was in Germany for an important meeting.
10. Russia War: Food Prices Will Continue To Rise In Nigeria – Ukraine
The Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Andriy Yermak has predicted an increase in food prices in Nigeria and other African countries as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The war between the two countries has led to an increase in staple food in the country especially bread as Russia and Ukraine are among the top 5 global suppliers of wheat, barley and maize.
Yermak during an Interview with Legit explained that the war is affecting African countries the most.
Yermak said, “The rise in food and energy prices translates to higher prices for all goods. This aspect directly touches the interests of the majority of the inhabitants of the African continent. You are well aware that a critical rise in prices is very likely to be followed by political instability, unrest, and even war.”
